This image conveys a message of how teenagers have drastically changed over time. The theme of this image is of a two different girls from different eras. What is noticed is, the changes with teens throughout the years in a sense of dressing, behaviour, and attitude. This shows a negativity of teens and the direction they are being lead by media. This should not be acceptable for teens to dress or act this certain way as an overdose of freedom. If teenagers are influenced then that is either from the society around them or it’s media itself. Making situations like this to be acceptable. This has an impact on the teenagers life to be brought up with pride and dignity, or to be labeled as something totally undignifying through the eyes of media. Thus examining the negative impact media has on society, influencing the way individuals tend to do things.

This image sends out a message of racism. The image has a light background with bolded letters glued to this man’s face. This is a negative showing negativity of how racism is shared throughout media. This image reveals how people see this person and his ethnicity.In a society full of media certain people are always presented as some sort of racist stereotype as in, this man is seen as a threat for being muslim, saying he is a part of Al Qaeda, or typically 9/11. This is the way people are seen through the eyes of media. These people are bullied for being their own race and are lead to contemplating suicide, depression, anxiety, and many other illnesses due to corruption of media.

Therefore analyzing the negative impact media has on society, influencing the way individuals tend to do things.

In Society both men and women are always looking for “The Perfect Body”.

Through the eyes of media, this is what a perfect body looks like. This image gives a negative impact on women, making it a pessimistic image. This image making women to strive and conquer that figure. Except some tend do it the wrong by not eating. This impacts people greatly and makes them feel uncomfortable with their bodies causing them to feel this certain way. In conclusion this  the negative impact media has on society, influencing the way individuals tend to do things.

This image shown gives a message of kids being influenced to do unacceptable acts. In this is a dark image, with a dark message of underage drug abuse. Children are influenced by things they hear, and see. The attitude of this girl is like an adult, the way she is standing with her hands tucked, and her face expression. This just shows how children are being influenced and mislead to the wrong directions. Children look upon an elder to mock, it is usually some sort of past or some sort of experience. The media in society not affects adults, and teens to do these certain things, it also affects children.

Media shows such things that are not meant for children to see, but due to the exposure on social media, kids have access to these social medias with their phones, allowing them to see these exposures. Causing the children to do such acts, showing the negative impact media has on society, influencing the way individuals tend to do things.

From a young age we are taught to want what society wants, what it think, what it believes, and what it wants us to become. This idea that we blindly follow what society wants us to is present throughout media, television, and much more.

The false values that society portrays are seen throughout our everyday lives.  In the first image we see a famous quote by Richard Nixon. It says “The American people don’t believe anything until they see it on television”. This quote shows how anything that we see on the television is what we believe. We listen to the television more than we listen to eachother. This false value of how the television is important to us, has such a big impact on our daily lives. We need to realize that we should sooner believe our peers than we should the television.

One word, Nevermind. Definition? To simply ignore, not to ask questions - the very thing society wants you to do. Chasing after a false value like money is normal to do for your entire life. This is the cover art of Nirvana’s album, Nevermind, and even the title itself means so much. But that is just one word. Pictures, as they say, speak a thousand, and this one certainly does. A baby swimming after a dollar bill on a fishing hook, us chasing after the only thing we are taught to want - money. Society has burned the image of money into our minds, we are taught to want it, so we chase it. The fishing hook represents society while the money is just another false value that it wants us to believe in. Since we think that money is the answer to everything, we follow it blindly without thinking, just like the child.

Botox, just another way we try to change ourselves to be what society wants us to be. Celebrities do it so why not us? Because everyone of us is perfect in our own way. We shouldn’t want to be what society tells us to be. We should want to be ourselves. This example of botox is one of many things so many people do around the world to try and be more perfect, when in reality they become more fake than the values that society wants us to believe in. We spend our lives trying to become this idea of “perfect”, we spend our lives chasing something that has been right in front of us the entire time. Therefore, the idea of us trying to become “perfect” is just another example of how we are chasing after the false values of society

Many people of the past have made history by standing up for what they believe in and not backing down. Some have died and some have suffered just to help make this world a better place. But when You think of these people you usually think of Nelson Mandela, Martin.L.King, and Rosa parks. These people are some of the most brave and courageous people in history. They were true leaders to people who didn't have a voice. And even if an army of problems  stood in their path they would rise up build up their courage and face their problem  even if it meant death or imprisonment. But through it all they all accomplished their goals. amazing smile all around the world. But in this image Mandela’s facial expression is a sad and serious one. From this you can infer that he  visited  his jail cell where he was imprisoned in for 27 years.  This image was captured in black and white which reveals how he didn't only fight for just the people of south Africa but for different people being oppressed around the world no  matter what  color they are. Mandela showed the world that you can change the world by standing up for what is right and and overcoming fear.

Rosa parks is one of the most courageous women in history. She  was brave enough to stand up against the Jim crow laws of segregation. She had enough of having to give up her favorite seat at the front of the bus  just because of the color of her skin. Knowing the consequences of her actions she built up the courage to not give her seat and  was arrested for this. But even though she was arrested she fought till the laws were changed. In these two images one is of Rosa Park’s mugshot and the other is of Rosa sitting on a bus right after the laws were changed. In the Mugshot  you can tell she has been roughed up a bit because of  the messiness of her hair and clothes. In this image she looks very serious and determined and confident that she will overcome this obstacle. In the next image it shows Rosa parks sitting in front a White man. Rosa is looking through a window to her left and is very relaxed and as you can see this picture was taken by a photographer which shows that Rosa has broken down barriers and can now sit in front of the bus without having to be asked to move. This shows her courage,Braveness, and fearlessness to stand up for what she believes in.

Martin Luther King is probably the most courageous civil rights leader of all time. Mr king has gone through some of the worst things a human can go through for example he has been arrested 30 times his house was blown up by a bomb, some of his friends and family were killed he has been in the hospital multiple times from being beaten up which on one occasion he was hit in the head by a brick. But above all that he had to lead a civil rights movement. In this picture it shows Mr king being arrested by two police officers. Mr king is waving to people on his left assuring them that everything will be okay. The expressions on the officer’s faces display hatred and disgust for King as if he had committed the worst crime.. But the real reason behind this arrest is because he wanted service at restaurant where the majority of the  waiters and waitresses who were white Americans would not give him any. For that reason  he was arrested. This shows how Martin Luther King had a long way to go if he was going to change america. But because of his determination  he changed america through his peacefulness, love, persistence, and above all his courage  even if it meant him losing his life. Mr king  could have given up and said he can't do this anymore and be overtaken by fear but he did not and now America is free from the laws that oppressed african americans for many  years.

To conclude, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King  accomplished tasks  that seemed  impossible. This shows how any of us can change the world if we replace our fear with courage and never back down even if everyone is against us. This is why change is the result of courageous people taking a strong stand.  

Awareness within the world: Analysis of images

Humanitarian aid organizations within developed countries heighten a dual awareness between third world and developed countries. Individuals in the developed country realize they are privileged and take things for granted, so they involve themselves in the life of the poverty stricken to feel self-worth. Whereas the poor in third world countries become grateful and better off, health and education wise,  in order to help themselves by being pulled out of poverty.

Upon first glance of this image, the two ladies looking at each other in the middle stand out, centering them out. This is significant because it relays the message of how both the helper and the helped are positively affected. The smiles on both of their faces show the positivity of this photo. The way that the red cross worker reaches out and touches the lady, that she is giving this bag to, shows the connection between the two. The connection they have is made by whatever this red cross worker is doing for her. It is clear by her facial expression that the lady within this third world country is touched by these workers and what they have done for her. In this picture it is shown that the volunteer understands how privileged she is because she has gone and helped someone who isn’t privileged like herself. Also, the women who is needy, has an expression of gratefulness.

This second picture is made simple so that it is easy to understand. The background of this picture is dark to really make the hands stand out. This is a representation of the globe, clasped by two hands, which is symbolic of the connection between different parts of the world. The different skin tones can be a representative of different racial heritages connected in a cooperative manner. The hand to the left is more of a white skin tone and the hand to the right is a darker skin tone. In the picture it is as if one hand is helping the other symbolizing that it is aiding the other hand/person.The relationship between the two hands are connected through aid creating an awareness of each other because they are reaching across the globe.

These children are sponsored through an organization called World Vision. The smiles on their faces convey a dual awareness in that the smiles let the sponsors know that their support has positively impacted these children and likewise puts smiles on the faces of the donors; the children have an awareness of being helped. Additionally, the children’s hands are up, this is a sign of enthusiasm and gratitude because they know that this picture is taken to give back to their supporters. There is no contrast in their expression, they are uniform in their display of happiness, no individual is unhappy. They begin to value and respect education the same as the representatives from the humanitarian aid organization.

This is two photographs of sponsored children who became teachers. With the help of a humanitarian aid organization they were pulled out of poverty to make a better life for themselves. Organizations, such as World Vision and Compassion Canada, help children in third world countries to have the necessities of education and health. In some cases, sponsored children later on in life meet their sponsors. Also, the sponsor and the sponsored child are connected through mailing in order for the sponsors to have the knowledge of how their child is progressing in life and in education. The letters create an opportunity for the sponsored to show their gratefulness to the sponsor and for the sponsor to be aware of the child’s situation.

In summation, each of these photos is representative of two different parts of the world that have come together, one the giver and one the receiver, and each has brought awareness to one another. It shows the need of human reliance upon one another. The connecting force between the two different parts of the world are the humanitarian aid organizations.

Gratefulness: We Don’t Know What We Have Till It’s Gone

Water, education, dress codes all seem like common rights that everyone has, Right? WRONG! Starting at a very young age, we as first world children learn to take things for granted. We can look at common rights in our lives that not everyone around the world has access to. These four images demonstrate that,  the privileges that we as first world citizens, take for granted can only be truly appreciated when we see the differences in education, freedom of choice, and wealth between us and those in third world countries.

           How many of us use to run through the sprinklers as children? Or have had long hot

 

showers and stand there for a long time? We don’t think any of it, because we think “oh it is just water!” According to water.org(2014), a 5 min shower is more water than an average person in third world counties use in an entire day. Over 783 million people in third world countries do not have clean drinking water. The image on the right shows a young boy from a third world country that has a water bottle with dirty water and is still happy. The photographer uses posture and position of the little boy to illustrate the joy and pride of his water even if it may not be the cleanest drinking water.  Although the water is not clean the boy is very grateful that he has water to drink, shown from the huge smile on his face. How many of us, first world citizens would drink that water?  Even if we had to drink the water we wouldn’t be grateful for it, as we have always had an abundance of clean water to drink, thus proving the privilege of clean water taken for granted by us Canadians.

What are you wearing today?  Have you ever been told to change? For us first world citizens we have the freedom to wear what we want when we want. For those people in

different countries this isn’t the same right. The image on the left shows a Saudi Arabian woman dressed in cultural Hijab and Burqa, looking at a wedding dress. In Saudi Arabia women have to be completely covered from head to toe when they go out in public, as well as the head (oldest male) of the family can reinforces this rule at home. For this woman, she is forced to wear the hijab and burqa, although she wants to wear this dress on her wedding day.  Has there ever been a moment of time when there is something you want to wear, but culturally you are not able to wear or obtain it? No? Well in other countries this is a norm. The attitude in this photo shows a woman all in black from head toe, wishing she could wear the wedding dress. This is shown by the posture of the woman and the way she is holding the sash of the dress. Although you cannot see her face, one can only assume there is an image of longing that she displays. This photo enhances the idea, that there is a difference between dress codes and freedom of choice throughout first and third world countries, demonstrating how we take the freedom of dress for granted.

“I don’t want to go,” and “Do I have to” are a few things we as students from the first world think when it comes to school. The image on the right portrays the idea of how

privileged we are when it comes our education. This picture shows a school in a developing country. The photographer uses the attitude of the children to further show the children’s feelings towards their current education. Look up, how many peers are on their cellphones right now or talking. Now look back at the picture. Take a note on how all the children look engaged and truly involved in their class, in comparison to people in your school. The children in the photo are truly grateful for the opportunity to learn as it is not a common right for them to get education.  Look around your classroom do you see walls, do you have air conditioning, do you have desks? Though these children have none of these “basic necessities”, they are still grateful to go to school and learn in these conditions. The privileges we view as basic necessities are all absent but the children are still even more engaged than any classroom I have ever participated in. This proves that we take things such as education, books, computers, and teachers for granted.

          

           How much did you eat today? Let me guess. You had a breakfast, some snacks

before lunch, lunch, more snacks after school and then a dinner? The image on the left shows a large man at a table with the world in front of him and a little man standing beside the table collecting the scraps.  The large man symbolizes the first world countries and the small man symbolizes third world countries. The large man is so large showing how much we as first world countries have compared to the little man who is so small and scrawny with not much in front of him. You can see on the large man’s face that he is still unsatisfied by the amount of food he has, compared to the little man who has no food and is waiting patiently for the scraps from us. This clearly illustrates how we as first world citizens take the privilege of having food for granted and always having an abundance of food so that you never have to worry when your next meal will be.

In summation, we as first world citizens don’t truly understand how privileged we are till we look at what others have. Enjoy the little things in life because those little things to some people are their big things!

The Empowerment of Women Throughout History

    Why is it that when I walk down the hall I hear women all over the place complaining about school and work? Have they ever realize that they are so privileged to even have the simple rights and freedoms such as a right to an education and a freedom of speech. They do not even take the time to think of how much effort our ancestors put into making sure that we have the rights and freedoms that us ladies have today. How come people do not even  realize that back in the day women did not go to school, they didn’t have a say in what they could do and they were never treated equally to men. Throughout history women have struggled to be able to get the things that they deserved. As time went on and as women took a stand in what they believe for their voices were heard and they started to become consider people and are getting treated equally to men around them. I believe that all of these years have shown that women who are feminist become role models for other in order to get the equality they deserve resulting in them empowering themselves and others to stand up for their rights and equality.. This is what women have shown in many ways in order to get freedom and the rights that they deserve. Individuals and groups of women do these things through advertising, animation and public speaking .  So the next time you are walking down the hall or you want to complain about anything take a second and think about truly have privileged we really are.

Before ww2 women were expected to do as their told and were not allowed to defend for  themselves. Women were expected to cook, clean have babies and  they were expected to have supper on the table for their husbands. As the years went on  there has been many conflicts that have changed the rights of women.In world war2 women started to realize that they could do  what ever they put their minds to. WW2 was the first real moment in women being able to get out of the houses and work in order to support the war efforts and their families. Rosie the Riveter was a women who felt that she need to get the women's voices heard and stand up for women, as she believed that men and women should be treated equally. She was able to get the this message across through a propaganda poster that displayed that women can do anything that men can do. This poster was a significant symbol of what happened during ww2 and how it empowered women around Rosie to take a stand. This poster symbolizes that women had jobs during the war. This is because the poster helped advertise that they needed help from the women as their were no men left because they have gone off to war. This showed that women are allowed to work and that they were good at it. This was a big step because women were not looked upon as people who could build tanks, weapons and machinery, but that is exactly what they did while they were working in the war. The symbolism of the words “ we can do it” that are in the photo are showing that she is trying to empower the other girls and women around her to join the battle and come work because she cannot do it alone.The words are also showing that the women can show other what they can do and that the are getting a chance to be equal to the men. They are also showing that they should be treated equally through the words that are on the poster. This poster also demonstrates that women can do anything a man can do and still be able to cook, clean and look after their children. Rosie had a strong belief that she was going to empower the women to stand up to the men for their rights and their equally, by making herself a role model for other women. Rosie shows this in the contrast of her attitude in the poster, as seen by her facial expression in the poster.  She looks serious and mighty like she can handle a job of a men and that she is no different from a men. She also gives off the impression that she is not happy that it is only the men that are allowed to work and that it is not only the mean that can do things. Also she is showing that she is a physical girl and that is is not only men  that are physically fit for this job. This is shown by what she is wearing which is not a dress which girls in that time period typically wore. she is wear is saying that girls can be guys in the way that they aren't only good for cooking and cleaning that they are also good and can do much more. Therefore, She is how she is proud and confident in her abilities and is willing to do anything and to struggle through problems that might occur in order to make sure that they can empower themselves to get equality that they deserve.

Also, media and animation are some the major reasons behind they ways men all over the world act towards women and why women are expected to act a certain way. This is happening all over the world who is creating people think that is the way that life should be.This is especially seen in Japanese animation. This is shown in this animation character that is a school girl who that is holding the gun within her school she is fighting for the eqaultity of women. This photo is sending some of the wrong messages to young girls but it is also sending some of the right messages. In this picture this character is located within her school as seen in the background of the photo. This shows that women now have the right to go to school. I believe that this couldn't be possible without women who have have given up everything and have found their leadership skills and inner strength to get themselves and others to get that rights that men have always had. This also would not be possible without role models that have showed girls that it is possible. By looking at the way this girl is standing you can tell that she isn't a dumb girl and she is sending the idea that girls are not dumb and that they know what they are doing because she is holding the gun correctly. This is also creating her to look strong and that this innocent girl isn’t week. The major thing that she is trying to show younger girls is that  nobody should judge women and girls based on their looks because they can do anything that they set their minds to. This animation character being a role model for younger girls, as she is saying that they are equal to men and that there is no such thing as boy jobs and girl jobs. Women can be in the military and that they are just as strong and good for the job as any of the other men. This is creating girls, who sees this animation character, want to be like her, which is creating them to empower themselves to be what they want to be and keep fighting in order to get respect and equality. Not only is she empowering the girls around her, but also that the education systems are empowering her to do what she wants and allow her to become the role model that she is. Therefore, she is proving to all girls that they can do anything if they set their mind on it and that younger girls should also be fighting for women's rights.     

Today women go to work and still do they typical thing such as clean and cook. They also able to vote and go to school. Women and men are equal in many aspect of their lives, but not each and every day . There are still some parts of the world that don't allow women to go to school or are able to stand up for what they want. In 2012 in Mingora Pakistan.Malala Yousafzai stood up to the Taliban and demanded that girls be allowed to receive an education. She has known to be an advocate for women’s education and the equality in girls and women. This was the picture that she use in order to get her message across. In this photo there is her in the an old rigid school and that she is content with where she is. The background of this photo show s that Malala is in a school and that it doesn't have to be the nicest looking school but she is in one. Also that it is important for women to know and her to empower herself to stand up to the Taliban in order to get education for women.  Also that she is wearing her traditional clothing and that it is a bright colour compared to the rest of the photo. The colour of the cloths are drawing attention to the fact that there is not just any one that is in the school but a girl who is happy to be in school. Malala is also not sitting at a desk even though there is one right beside her. By her doing this she it tell all the younger girls and women that she has the courage to even step into the school and she doesn't even have to be learning anything but she is saying that girls deserve to go to school.

 She is also telling the whole world how women and men should be equal and that women should get the right to an education, as there is a globe in the background. She is showing that it is a worldwide issue and that it is causing her to speaking up and show that she can speak up because girls and women all over the world deserve the freedom of speech. Even to this day Malala still is a huge role model for girls and women around the world. She is a public speaker who empowers herself to speak about the rights and equality of women and empower  others around her to join her in the battle to get the right to an education for women. Even to this day Malala still is a huge role model for girls and women around the world. She is a public speaker who empowers herself to speak about the rights and equality of women.  and  others around her in order to  freedom of speech.  

     To conclude, women become role models through the usage of public speaking, animation and advertising in order to get the message out to people that women should be equal to men and they deserve the same rights as men. Also, that they empower others around them so that they can join the battle and fight against the people who get in their way of accomplishing their goal.

The Fatal Truth of Pollution

The global destruction is a daily problem that our planet faces. With industrial factories, cars, cities, and resource mining, our earth is taking a beating. Since the industrial revolution, greenhouse gases have affected our atmosphere's natural balance, trapping more heat into the planet. This is known as global warming.  What some people do not realize, this affects us dramatically. Humans take Earth for granted and do not understand the outcome.

Ever since the industrial revolution, the planet has changed. In a negative way. Yes, the products produced are helpful and I will admit, I would be hopeless without out them. But I will not deny that the mining, construction, and industrial production is taking a toll on Earth. The picture below shows this toll with the use of colour. One on side there is a blast of colour. This colour shows the prosperity of our planet, the natural prosperity. There is lots of animals and plants. The earth itself is bright and clean. The ocean is not polluted and the land is clear. This colourful side shows the way the plant is post to be. Compared to the opposite side. It is dark, with shades of browns and blacks. The buildings represent the human impact. In place of trees and animals there is buildings. A ton of buildings. There is no sign of natural life. The planet itself is dark, appearing polluted. The ocean is black and the land is a dark green. The dark color represents the negative effect of human technology and in this context destroying the planet.

Humans mostly care about one thing and that's wealth. If you do not have money in today's society you are a nobody. This is one of the major problems humans face daily. How can i get more money? People view the planet as a gold mine. Literally. mining for gold, minerals, and oil. Also with the vast landscapes cities can be built. With cities jobs are created and money can be made. The attitude of the man displayed in this image shows that will for money. The man is hovered over the planet with his arms wrapped around it. He is encasing the planet, displaying his thought “this is mine.” He can do anything he wants with the planet no matter the outcome. This outcome happens to be the devastation of Earth. All the natural colours are dripping off. Just like how all our natural resources are disappearing. One of them the amazon rain forest. Lumber is a major industry. This industry brings in money. But it also causes pollution and extinction of many species. So, is man's greed for money way more important than the home we live on?

In the summer it is always nice to go to the beach on a hot day and relax in the water. But will this luxury be available for future generations? At the rate garbage is produced most likely not. Say you buy a 6 pack of pops for you and your friends, you drink them and throw the plastic holder and cans onto the ground. This garbage blows into the nearby river. Sure a couple pieces of garbage goes in, who cares? Now think of all 7 billion+ people doing this all day. Where does this garbage go? In our lakes,rivers, and oceans. Not only is this bad for marine life but it is only bad for us! This garbage will keep accumulating until it gets like the river shown in this image. The river itself is a symbol of what our future generation will have to deal with. Maybe our kids, maybe our grandkids, but this garbage is not going away. The garbage creates pollution in the water, kills off food sources. It also makes the water undrinkable. What will happen if there is no more drinkable water? What will this do for our future generations?

Does nature really matter? Do I even have to ask that question. But what would happen to us if all the nature disappeared? Well everything plays a toll in existence. Without predators there would be too many prey, without plants there would be no herbivores and etc. Everything is tied together in some way and that is what the image is showing. The image is drawn with lines connecting people with nature. The lines run through all of the trees and all the people. The lines are able to show that without nature we would die. Nature provides all the species with a suitable environment, food, and a chance for survival. But with the pollution and multiple industries our natural resources are disappearing. Which is a major problem and threatens our existence. So, without the tie to nature we would not be able to survive.

                                                                                     

To conclude, Earth is not just an object that we can take advantage of. This is our only home and we need to protect what we have. We need to understand what is happening to our home and stop digging our own graves.
