In today's day and age war comes and goes as fast as a fashion trend, leaving those who aren't on the front lines numb to what is truly going on overseas. Our first world countries keep us in the dark when it comes to all things military, other then the fact the we are "fighting the good fight" bringing these false promises to civilians back in the U.S Canada etc. while murdering those in developing countries behind our backs.it is time to shed some light on the realities of war and to realize we are not stopping evil, but creating it.

The first image is at the Battle of Dieppe which took place during WWII, This particular battle was one of the bloodiest battles of world war 2 on the side of the alliance with a death toll unheard of for US and Canadian forces. Yet this battle is unknown to many civilians in first world countries. The striking imagery depicted in the photo is reminding and humbling to all that view it because it reminds people to think, yes we won the the war but how many have been lost. The fact that many don't see war this graphically emphasis the severity of the photo.

In fact for many people the only way they will view the war is through monuments like the memorial day statue. These monuments are used to show the greatest victories and high points in war while leaving losses like Dieppe behind to be forgotten,in order to glorify going to fight a war. The truth behind war is sugar coated for those who aren't seeing it first hand so they continue to believe they are helping solve world issues when truthfully they are being shipped overseas to risk their live's in one of many wars to come.

War however is constantly changing and evolving which is good in a sense getting more troops off of frontlines while technology takes over, but eventually technology went too far.in the next image you can see one of the first nuclear bombs. This was what brought WWII to a very abrupt end, and for good reasons. The two bombs dropped on Japan killed hundreds of thousands of people in a matter of minutes each and more years later from radiation poisoning. The bomb can almost be seen as a metaphor for the US, being the big global military power who can walk over any country, but this blatant killing of innocent people would not go unpunished.
Shortly after this attack and the surrender of the Japanese, the world responded very quickly. Other global superpowers, like Russia, created their own nuclear weapons. As every 2nd world and above countries made there weapons they they flipped the table on the US back to even, This is what sparked the cold war. Essentially big countries making big threats to destroy each other, and withe the force to do it afew times over. The final image illustrates the US in a deadlocked wrestling match for the world, a simile of the great saying "with great power comes great responsibility. This was a great concern for the world as it could be ended in the near future and is still a large concern today with more countries acquiring these weapons.this day to day world we live in now is unpredictable.
In conclusion, there is no winning when it comes to war, only two sides fighting a loosing battle trying to destroy evil while creating it.
Jason, I like all four of your images. I also think your topic is very important for us to know. It's important to realize how many soldiers were lost in the war. Especially in the first image. The dieppe battle was awful for this. Many soldiers died representing are county and no body really looks at the bad images of the war. The photo really does emphasize the dead or wounded soldiers on the ground like you said
