Is Tourism a Negative Thing?
Tourists are known for exploring and seeing the beauty within the world. They spend thousands of dollars to go to the fanciest and nicest places in the world. But is touring natures beauty have a negative impact on the Earth? Tourists don’t realize that what they’re doing is really harmful to the Earth. The impact of tourism shows that humans are destroying the natural beauty of the world. Do we even realize what we’re doing to the Earth’s natural beauty?

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most beautiful corals in the world. Tourists go to Australia to see this Reef and to enjoy its beauty. They go to see the beautiful colours and all the amazing fish. But what they don’t realize is all of the swimmers and all the boats constantly going over t he corals is slowing killing all the beautiful corals, humans love to look at and take pictures of. The coral in the first picture is vibrant and full of life but in contrast to the second photo is very dark and lifeless and it has a dark background. I think that in the second photo the dark background and the lifeless scene represents how the humans have destroyed the natural beauty of the reef because there is no fish or wildlife that the coral has been ruined. The marine life disappearing shows that the human impact on the reef makes the wildlife not want to live there anymore due to all the tourists and boats that are going by just to see the beautiful scenery. The dark blue water in the background shows the everything is dying and how the reef has changed over the years. The pictures are a comparison on how the reef looked in the past and how the corals were vibrant and there was lots of marine life(top picture) to how in the second photo it has been dying and the natural beauty is disappearing. Because the reef is such a huge tourist increase it means there is more construction to develop resorts around the reef to house the tourists. Construction of resorts and other tourist developments can cause an increase in pollution and noise, and a decrease in resources and natural land, which causes the coral and even the land around it to lose that natural beauty sensation. Over time, with the tourist increase the Great Barrier Reef will be undesirable to go see and it will become a non-touristy place to visit.
Another way tourists are destroying natures beauty is by forgetting it exists. Hyde park is one of the largest parks in London, as well is one of the Royal parks in London. Hyde park has something for everyone; swimming, boating, tennis courts, horse riding it just about has something to do for everyone interests and with the Royal aspect of this park it bring in lots of tourists to see what it's all about. But, the increase of tourists for short period of time or the “Hot period” to visit means more hotels to accommodate their new guests. But, when that time is over with these hotels are just left alone and then the park becomes an unwanted place to see because it's seens as an “unwanted” place to visit. In the photo to the left, the dark colours used and the uncut grass shows how that because Hyde park is at an off season it is a place nobody wants to visit making it “dirty” looking. The dark colours used makes a person feel rather sad or dark about Hyde Park and because tourist only like to see things that are beautiful and worth seeing they leave the things that used to be the “it” things to see because it's old. Because tourists pick when they want to visit these places it destroys the natural beauty if that place isn’t looked after.
Tourists don’t care what happens, which leads to dirty and gross things happening to the beauty. Mount Everest is the biggest mountain in the world. People train for years to even have the chance to attempt to climb this mountain. Mount Everest is known for being treacherous and very difficult to climb. Tourists go to Nepal to trek for 10 days to even see this monstrous mountain, not always to just climb it. People know how hard it is and would sometimes rather look at the natural beauty. Why is this climber picking up the garbage? Shouldn't we know to pick up our own garbage? That garbage in the foreground in contrasts to the beauty in the backgrounds. It makes you focus only on the garbage and not the beauty. It shows that leaving the garbage and not caring about what happens to the mountain takes away from the natural beauty of the mountain. This shows how tourists feel; they feel as lie they don't care what happens to the mountain or what it looks like so, they'll just leave it anywhere destroying the beauty along with the hopes of other climbers. Other climbers seeing the garbage won’t enjoy the climb as much as they would of liked because they’re too worried about keeping the mountain beautiful and clean. The darkness in the background is showing how the other mountains are changing over time from climbers and how they’re all becoming “dirty” so, eventually Mount Everest will turn out that was as well.
Finally, is partying in other countries. Is it really a positive thing? The “Full Moon Party” as they say happens every full moon in Koh Phangan, Thailand. Thailand has many beautiful places to visit from Bangkok to the islands and Koh Phangan is just one of the nicest places to visit here. With the blue waters to the giants island. But to teens this beautiful island seems more of a party place than a relaxing time on the beach. These parties are huge for young, single people wanting a new type of touring a island. These parties go on for hours and hours, all night long with teens and young people not caring at what they're actually doing to the island. What do you think those people in the photo are going to do with those empty bottles? Throw them out? I'm guess they will throw them into the water because it’s the easiest thing available. The people in the foreground makes you focus on what they’re doing and not the actual island. I see a ground of careless young adults having a good time but, do they really care at all about what they’re doing? Probably not. So now, this island is only seen as a party place and not as that relaxing beach place.
So throughout these images have you seen any positives with tourists? No. But not the actual tourists are the problem its them not caring about what they’re doing and just wanting to do whatever they feel like. But in the process of all this, it destroys the natural beauty of the world.

Great job Amy!!! Your post shows a variety of tourist sites that are being greatly affected by tourism. Though many of the sites are beautiful the pollution and presence of human life is creating destruction to these areas. I strongly agree with your second photo and how you say people forget it exists. Suddenly now that the area is dirty and over visited the site becomes common and don't appreciate its beauty. Overall, your blog shows strong issues that are being coming present throughout the world today through tourism
