I Am a Man
The image "I am a Man" shows multiple men walking down a road at gunpoint, all holding signs saying "I am a Man", except one gentlemen. The man who is not holding the sign happens to be white, where as the rest of the men are black. I believe the message being portrayed is that black men have to prove they are also men, and they are equal to what a white man is, where as a white man has already earned that equality and image of a man. This shows the opposing rights of a white and black man side by side. The attitude shown by the subjects in the image differs between the men with signs and the man without. The men carrying signs look worried and in a single filed line with good posture, where as the man without looks very lackadaisical and relaxed. This shows that the men holding the signs believe they are at risk during this protest because of their race where as the white man seems confident and does not seem threatened by the men holding the guns. This shows the inequality portrayed during this time period as whites and blacks were not treated equally.
